Nigeria, Ogun State - The Dangote Cement, Ibese depot Managing Director, Mr Azad Nawabudden, on Wednesday, 19th July, 2023 commended South West journalists in for their support to the plant in its efforts at restoring the global Ecosystem.
Nawabudden, who made this commendation, while speaking at a two-day workshop themed, "Skills and Personal Qualities for Reporting in the Digital Age", held at the Continental Suites, Abeokuta, the State capital said, "The media, as core partners have been supportive in the propagation of our giant strides in social investments as a responsible corporate citizen with focus on four areas; Education, Health Empowerment and Infrastructures.
"In the same vein, we have noted your remarkable support in projecting our relentless contributions to the restoration of the ecosystem with our alternate fuel project as championed by Ibese Plant. The initiative, which has been replicated in other cement Plants across Nigeria has helped to reduce carbon footprint in our environment.
"This event is part of Dangote Group’s corporate strategy to impact journalists, who are considered a critical stakeholder segment in our businesses with wherewithal to operate more efficiently and effectively in the new social media era.
"We recognize media practitioners’ role as indispensable in the task of building reputation, public goodwill and conducive environment for our operations.
"Further to collaborating with and supporting the operations of media organizations across the country through various means, we organize this training to support the practitioners who though outside the media headquarters, are equally fundamental to the execution of our strategy to build a brand of choice and position the Dangote Brand as the most valuable in Africa.

The CEO, Centre For Financial Journalism, Ray Echebiri PhD, who organized the training, in his remarks gave kudos to Dangote Group for encouraging training and retraining of journalists.
He implored journalists to work hard to improve on their financial status, using varied opportunities opened through the advent of social media tools, adding that the door of Centre for Financial Journalism is open to any journalists seeking ways to achieve more in the profession.
Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, in his remarks said journalists should take advantage of the training to enhance themselves in this Digital Age and whoever failed to join New age of Digital reportage may find it difficult to cope with the trend in the media industry.
He urged the participants to take full advantage of the workshop to hone their skills such that would enable their reportage to always be digitally refined, accurate, fair and balanced, putting on record varied instances where Dangote Nigeria Ltd has offered support and partnership to NUJ.
Mr Francis Awowole-Browne, of Dangote Cement, Ibese depot "Branding and Communication Department" charged the pressmen to key into the use of social media tools to improve on their skills and as additional sources of income just as Artificial Intelligence has come to take over jobs meant for human interfacing.
In her goodwill, Mrs Seun Idowu Boye, Ogun State Chapter, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations gave kudos to Dangote for commitment for nurturing talents and appealled to other corporate bodies and organisations to emulate the corporate's gesture.
According to her, "This training is coming at a time when the world has become a global village and there is no gainsaying the fact that it has become imperative for journalists to adapt, embrace technological advancements, and harness the power of digital platforms while adhering to ethical principles for them to continue to enjoy professional relevance in a competitive market".
The two days training, which ended today, Thursday, 20th July, 2023 had in attendance no fewer than 50 journalists, Dangote Group led by Mr. Azad Nawabdudin, Plant Director, Dangote Cement, Mr. Francis Awowofe-Brown, Branding and Communication Department, Mr. Tunde Oladapo, Brand Manager, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, Chairman, Ogun State NUJ Council, Mrs Oluwasegun Boye, Ogun State Chapter, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and CFJ CEO, Dr. Ray Echebiri.
